The PGY1 year is based at Royal Columbian Hospital and is divided into 13 four-week blocks. Training includes a combination of psychiatry, including emergency psychiatry, emergency medicine, internal medicine (which may include family medicine), and one block of pediatrics. Residents also complete selective rotations, which may include psychiatry, emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, palliative care, or research. In addition, residents have two elective blocks to further tailor their training experience.
Call responsibilities are determined by the requirements of each rotation.
Residents receive four weeks of vacation annually, as well as five days of paid conference leave each academic year.
