Geriatric Psychiatry

The Geriatric Psychiatry rotation in Fraser Health offers a rich combination of experiences designed to provide well-balanced core training in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders in late life including depression, psychosis, anxiety, sleep disturbances, memory or behavioural problems, and other mental health problems associated with aging. The rotation provides supervised clinical training in a broad array of settings including: outpatient specialty clinics (i.e. Memory Clinic), inpatient units, nursing home/long-term care settings, home based/outreach services, neurology/geriatric medicine services, and community based offices and mental health clinics.  Residents will also gain hands-on experience in the delivery of ECT treatment.

The rotation will be based out of one or more of the following hospitals and their affiliated community clinics:  Royal Columbian Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital.
